Fantasy sacs Show #14 is Posted for Aug 27 2005

Finally back to schedule! A little longer show then usual since there was a little to catch up on. Luckily there was not a whole lot going on in the NFL, outside of a couple injuries and depth chart stuff. I also got to try out my new bumpers! Thanks to one of our listeners. So take a listen. ( ).

So it looks like they've managed to make the value of QB's roughly
equal to the value of RB's, which maybe screws up my usual "take two
RB's in the first two rounds no matter what" strategy. How
drastically should I overvalue QB's in this league? For example,
should I take a Favre or Green in the second round? I have the 5th
pick -- should I consider taking Manning, or even Culpepper, with my
first pick? Are the top 20 QB's now as valuable as the top 20 RB's?

Some general guidance would be much appreciated.

Thanks again!

As for this previous question. I just had my draft for my team that has 2 QBs and I had the best draft out of 9 other guys. It looks like the main difference between your league and the one I'm in is you have 3 extra bench spots.

My draft went RB, RB, QB, QB, WR, WR, RB, (then went for the best player out there, yes I took crumpler with my 8th pick and Bal with my 10th -but they were the best options at the pick time and I knew the other players I wanted could go later)
my team currently is:
1. (3) S. Alexander
2. (16) K. Jones
3. (21) M. Bulger
4. (34) M. Hasselbeck
5. (39) A. Johnson
6. (52) D. Jackson
7. (57) J. Arrington
8. (70) A. Crumpler
9. (75) L. Johnson
10. (88) Baltimore
11. (93) E. Kennison
12. (106) Ro. Smith
13. (111) K. Colbert
14. (124) J. Bettis
15. (129) M. Morris
looking back there are a few picks I would change but they are nothing drastic. There were 2 QBs taken in round 1 and those teams look super weak in the RB and WR spots. I would strongly suggest to stick to the RB in round one stratagy, round 2 you might be able to switch it up, but I would still try to get a second solid RB then grab your QBs.
-Note: I still have no kicker -I'll grab him later
The other guy in my league who has a good overall team went RB, RB, WR, QB, QB, WR, WR...

I'll post show notes after this

"no gnews is good gnews without gary gnu" -Yeah, I remember that from the Great Space Coaster

Good show, I had problems hearing your audio tracks though.

The madden Curse went:
Eddie George -(on 2000 cover lost SuperB, came back next year injured through-out season, didn't even get 1000 yds rushing) -not so bad
Daunte Culpepper -knee injury
Marshall Faulk -injured his ankle and sucked ever since then
Mike Vick -broken leg
Ray Lewis -only injured in a couple games at the end of season and team looses playoff spot -also not so bad

McNabb -well lets see, so far #1 WR is wanting to Hold Out and has hammy problems #2 WR out for season #2 RB out for season (I'm sure #1 RB will get hurt) -I had a chance to get McNabb with my 3rd round pick, and passed -I wouldn't touch him! ...5th round... okay maybe then, my point is let the other teams have his headaches this year and get Bulger or Green instead.

PRESEASON GAME TIPS:
I will only watch the 1st maybe 2nd Quarter; Only look at the #1 players in the Recap/Game Stats links and see how they are doing -make sure they didn't get hurt; if there is a battle between 2 players, then look at all their stats from multiple games (cause the could be playing weaker back-up Ds while the other is playing the starting D from week to week)

oh, and I already snagged T.Taylor (#2 WR in Min) last week

I knew the madden curse was real, my guess is McNabb catches a rare bird virus that makes him bleed through his eyes, while not deadly it makes his passes a little inaccurate as he can only throw a max of 3 yards.

The audio problem was more with the file, I think I have to relisten. It was 2 weeks and my setup was not completly ok. I'll look into it.

The Real:

Thanks for the advice -- it was helpful. I have a strategy now, but since I suspect some people in my league might be reading this blog, I'll keep it to myself. =)

Thanks again!

One thing that would be good to do, is take a good 3rd QB somewhere around pick 9-12. Someone like Carr, McNair, Griese, or Plummer would be a good bench QB for bye weeks. Otherwise you'll be like my team and have to pick up Eli, Rattay, Dilfer, or Orton for bye weeks. Because of the lack of debth at the QB spot, my team could even slowly die if anything happens to either of my QBs.

Also with 7 bench spots people are likely to sit on players. So if you have more than 7 teams in your league it might be good to grab a couple extra QBs for trade bait later. -I can almost guarantee that someone will take a trade for a 6th round WR or a 3rd or 4th round RB, once their QB is getting them negative points. ie: Carson Palmer took so many damn points away from me last year.
