Our First listener contribution! RB analysis from Ken Bauer

Ken has the spirit, remember I don't know everything so I look to you guys ( and its safe to say its an all mens club) So ken hooked us up with a nicely written article going over some RB's that may have some hidden potential or as every ESPN geek says, "Upside". I'll hand it off to Ken.

Running backs with upside potential.

These player should be available late in the draft and could possibly be top 15 running backs when the year is through. I wanted to stay away from picking RB that would do well in the case of an injury. So I am concentrating on RB who will out perform expectation or take away from an existing starter because of his poor performance.

Frank Gore

is in a great position. Kevan Barlow performed below expectations last year after the he was handed the starting job. Barlow almost lost his job Skip Hicks last year. Gore is two years removed from knee surgery so he should be ready to make a move, I like his chances with the history of other University of Miami Running Backs Edgerrin James, Clinton Portis, Willis Mcgahee. At 5'9" 217 lbs he is powerful and fast.

Cedric Benson

and the Bears want to run the ball. Thomas Jones hasn't kept a starting job his entire career and this year should be no different. Jones is not an every down back. If you have to compare Benson to someone, he is Ricky Williams, but younger and more committed. 5'10" and 223 lbs he will punish weak NFC north defenses in the late autumn when the air turns cool and weather can be unpredictable.

TJ Ducket

will be this years Bettis. Ducket will not get you many yards but he may be a TD machine. The Falcons have established him as there goal line and short yardage back. Dunn is too small to be used in these situations and Vick will look to improve on his passing numbers and concentrate less on running short yardage plays. A couple of 65+ yards days will happen but mostly 20 - 40 yard days but Tds it what he brings to the table.

Marshall Faulk

is a strange name to find here, but the starting job has been handed to Stephan Jackson. Faulk may not be done just yet. The Rams will find themselves in a lot of close games again this year and the mad scientist Mike Martz may loose confidence in a young running back with limited experience. Jackson is a more punishing runner which is not Martz's style. If last year taught us anything don't discount the veteran Rbs.

I might add to this that Faulk has much better hands then Jackson and will be used as a WR or a RB in motion. He will score TD's but not at a RB he can't hit the holes like he use to but still has great speed and great moves in the open field. Great work Ken, keep it coming, who's next?

Frank Gore? do you really feel that it's safe to pick up any SF player? The only one I'll consider is their TE.

I will say in a deep league I could see how he could make a difference

I have heard mumblings about Frank but nothing for certain. You have to wonder if getting a guy who is #3 on the depth chart is a good idea. But he could hend up like a Ruben Droughns.
