NFL's top draft pick agrees on record-setting 49ers deal (AFP via Yahoo! News): "National Football League Draft number one selection Alex Smith has agreed to a six-year deal with the San Francisco 49ers for the most guaranteed money ever given an NFL rookie."

Fantasy Sac Says: Finally now we can get the other rookies to sign and get this rolling. My question is, you give Smith this kind of money, does he start this year? I think no but the 49ers may need him.

51 mill, that's crazy. I guess the league is making money hand over fist. I agree with smellyfire.

The 49ers have to start him. In Detroit you can throw anybody out there on the field and we will pack the stadium. I don't believe San Francisco is the same way. Remember all NFL teams are out for one thing and that's too make money. Alex Smith is the "glimmer" in every 49ers fans eye. Although on the fantasy front I don't think I'm alone in him being the 29th or 30th best qb available.

yeah, yeah, big deal some kid younger than me gets to play a game and make more than I'll make in a lifetime in a couple of years... My reply, who cares, he's just going to be a FA in my league this year, and if any manager starts him they are a moron.
