Part 2 From Howard Appel-Cedric Benson – Chicago Bears

Cedric Benson – Chicago Bears: Well, it is quite obvious that the Bears do not have great confidence that RB Thomas Jones, last year’s starter, is up to the challenge of being “the man” in Chicagoland (man, I’m glad I traded him last year). While he actually looked pretty impressive in his first few starts in 2004, once QB Rex Grossman was lost for the season, that production fell right off the face of the earth. The thought was that once Grossman returned in 2005, the Bears would be confident that Jones could be the “every down back” they need. Well, with the drafting of rookie Cedric Benson, it is clear that they do not think that Jones is that guy. This move definitely muddies the water (or at least the backfield) for the Bears in 2005, and now questions arise as to how the ball is going to be shared. With the money that they paid Benson, and all of the hype about his performance at Texas, I can’t imagine this guy is going to be sitting on the bench. I’m sure they will make it an open competition, but I would be shocked if Benson is not named the Week 1 starter by the end of training camp. With the return of Grossman, the addition of WR Muhsin Muhammad, and the signing of Benson, the Bears could be an interesting team to watch in 2005. I think Benson will take some pressure off Grossman and the passing game, and conversely, the improved passing game will keep Benson from facing 8 men in the box on every down. I think Thomas Jones will get his carries, but this offense is going to be built around Benson, and I would not be surprised to see at least 8 TDs from him on the ground along with about 800 yards rushing.

Fantasy Sac Says: Right on Howard I pretty much agree with everything he says here. Personally I don't see CB getting much more then 700 Yards especially is Mushy Muhammad does not come back 100% and Rex Grossman not living up to expectations (which can't be THAT high) I don't know if CB will be that much of an impact player for them. 8 TD is on the high end to but if he plays evey game I could see it.
